Freddie Freeman: Day-To-Day w/ Sore Wrist

Freddie Freeman has been listed as Day-To-Day with a sore wrist after leaving in the 3rd inning of Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins.

Freddie Freeman has been dealing with his right wrist for most of this season, missing significant time on the Disabled List earlier this summer because of it. Freeman was held out of the lineup last Wednesday as well against the New York Mets at Citi Field because of his sore wrist. Freeman pinch hit in the 7th inning of Wednesday’s game, leading the Atlanta Braves to a dramatic victory over their division rivals with 5 RBI’s.

Freddie Freeman will see hand specialist Dr. Gary Laurie on the team’s off day on Monday to see if the injury is more serious than previously thought. Freeman spoke to MLB.com yesterday and stated,

"“It just flared up a little more and hopefully Dr. Laurie will give me some good news,” Freeman said. “I don’t know. Maybe with the day and a half off, too, I’ll be able to go. But we’ll see.”"

With only 1 week left in the season, and the Atlanta Braves eliminated from playoff contention, it is not imperative for Freddie Freeman to return to the lineup if he and the Braves do not feel that he is ready to play a day or two from now. Braves’ manager commented on Freddie Freeman’s status yesterday, stating,

"“He’s tried to play through it, but I think today was just a little bit too much. I didn’t want to continue to run him out there.Even after he goes to the doctor — unless something really crazy happens — he’s gonna beg to get back in the lineup. So we’ll call it day to day right now.”"

Freddie Freeman is a competitor, and even at the end of a lost season, wants to play out the rest of the team’s schedule. With the division rival Washinton Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals coming to Turner Field for the final two series of the season, the Atlanta Braves can win back some pride and perhaps play the role of spoiler when playing the Cardinals.

In 2015, Freddie Freeman’s numbers have regressed from past seasons, batting only .281 with 18 homers and 66 RBI’s. This regression could perhaps be attributed to his nagging wrist injury and a strained oblique that kept Freeman on the DL for some time. Hopefully next season, Freddie Freeman will return healthy and ready to lift the Atlanta Braves back into playoff contention in 2016.
