The Atlanta Braves were victorious against the best team in the National League on Friday night, shutting out the St. Louis Cardinals at Turner Field by a final score of 4-0. This was the 13th time this season that the Cardinals have been shut out.

Julio Teheran pitched an absolute gem in his final start of 2015, going 6.0 innings and not allowing a run while striking out 6 Cardinals hitters. Teheran has been absolutely dominant over the course of the past month, owning a sub 1.90 ERA. Atlanta Braves starting pitchers have now recorded 5 consecutive quality outings. Teheran eclipsed the 200 innings pitched mark this evening.

After Freddie Freeman was hit by a Randy Choate pitch, Daniel Castro hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the 8th, scoring Freeman from first-base to give the Atlanta Braves a 3-0 lead. Nick Markakis had a multi-hit game on Friday, as his 8th inning opposite field single score Daniel Castro to increase the Braves lead to 4-0.

The St. Louis Cardinals were unable to manufacture any runs on Friday, despite having some chances. Julio Teheran worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th inning, coming through the frame unscathed.

Edwin Jackson, Danny Burawa and Arodys Vizcaino all pitched shutout ball for 3.0 innings. Edwin Jackson recorded another hold setting up for Vizcaino. Though it was not a save situation, Vizcaino allowed a walk but touched triple digits on the radar gun.

Friday’s game was a good all around effort from the Atlanta Braves, especially against the NL’s best. Even though Mike Matheny elected to not play some of his starters, this game should definitely help the psyche of the Atlanta Braves going into the offseason, and continue to grow their confidence.

Tomorrow’s game will feature another excellent pitching matchup, as Shelby Miller faces off against the Cardinals’ John Lackey. Miller will be attempting to snap a streak of 24 consecutive games in which he has not gotten a win. It certainly will be difficult — especially against Lackey, who has had a good season — but maybe the Atlanta Braves’ bats can come alive and give Miller a much needed win. Go Braves!
