Last week against Duke, Justin Thomas was the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets second leading rusher, rushing for 58 yards on 24 carries. Most of these rushing yards were not by design, as Thomas was constantly pressured by the Duke defense, averaging only 2.4 yards per carry.

In the triple option offense, throwing the ball is not a priority — and it shouldn’t be. Alas, last week against Duke, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were consistently forced into 3rd and long situations, forcing QB Justin Thomas to try to pass the ball. He was not very successful, going 6/21 and passing for 141 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.

Justin Thomas is still a run-first QB, and must find a way to ignite the Yellow Jackets’ run game. Passing is good every once in a while to keep the opposing defense on their toes, but Justin Thomas should make establishing the Tech running game a priority against UNC.
