THE DEFENSE COLLAPSED

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have never been known to have a great defense, but it has held up decently well (all things considered) for part of the season. This past Saturday against UNC, the wheels fell off and the defense totally collapsed, blowing a 3 touchdown lead.

All-ACC defensive lineman Adam Gotsis was ejected in the first half for allegedly targeting North Carolina quarterback Marquise Williams, diminishing the efficacy of the Tech defense even further. If the defense cannot effectively contain their opponent’s offense, it limits the ability of the Jackets offense. The triple option eats up the clock, and if Tech has a deficit, a struggling defense is not conducive to fostering a comeback.

Paul Johnson has always placed an emphasis on offense, but perhaps in the future, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets should place a similar emphasis on recruiting on the defensive end. This team does not resemble the squad from last season, which does not bode well in their attempt to get back into the Coastal division race.
