Georgia Bulldogs Look to Keep Streak Alive vs. UT

The Georgia Bulldogs have won their last five games versus the Tennessee Volunteers. Do the Dawgs rebound after Week 5’s loss this afternoon and keep the streak alive vs. UT? Kickoff is at 3:30 PM ET on CBS.

Georgia is coming off a tough loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 5, getting washed out in the rain, 38-10 for their first defeat of the season. Fortunately for the Dawgs, they will face an opponent that hasn’t beat UGA in half a decade.

The Tennessee Volunteers sit at 2-3 (0-2) entering today’s game with the Georgia Bulldogs and are possibly looking at the beginning of the end of another unsuccessful head coaching era. Since parting ways with former HC Philip Fulmer after the 2008 season, the Vols have struggled mightily to contend in the SEC East.

UT has lost 11 straight games to Florida, 8 straight to Alabama and 5 straight to UGA. Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs hope to make it half a dozen straight over Rocky Top by handling the Volunteers in Knoxville this afternoon.

Georgia is the deeper team and still controls their own East, SEC, and College Football Playoff destinies. Tennessee needs to do the near impossible of rattling off consecutive victories over UGA and Alabama for current HC Butch Jones to stay in good standing with Vol Nation.

This game will come down to three things for the Dawgs: 1. Georgia will have to slow down the rushing attack of RBs Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara, as well as mobile QB Joshua Dobbs. 2. Georgia will have to move the ball better through the air than they did against Alabama (really anything is an improvement over that lackluster showing). 3. Marshall Morgan will have to outperform Aaron Medley in clutch kicking situations.

If we keep beating our chests about having the deepest LB corps in football, the Tennessee game would be a great time for the Georgia Bulldogs to show up convincingly run defense. The pass rush will get their, but stopping the run is more crucial for UGA this afternoon.

So long as UGA QB Greyson Lambert can get a grip on the pigskin, I think he will play with more poise this afternoon and should get back to Week 3-4 form against UT.

Lastly, if we do have the best kicker in the SEC, I think a pair of solid kicks from Morgan early on could help set up later touchdown runs by Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, or Keith Marshall should the levee break on the Tennessee defense. Getting points early only helps the Dawgs in this game.

One of Mark Richt’s most memorable games as Head Coach of Georgia came against Tennessee in 2001 in the Hobnail Boot game in Knoxville. I think the Georgia Bulldogs come out a bit too angry for their own good in the first half, but will take over the game completely in the second half. UGA puts the final nail in the coffin that was the Butch Jones Era in Rocky Top.

Prediction: Georgia Bulldogs 34, Tennessee 21
