The similarities between the Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs are many, leading to the Hawks being dubbed as “Spurs East” by many pundits. Head Coach Mike Budenholzer is a former top assistant to Spurs Head Coach Gregg Poppovich, and still maintains a friendship with Popp. Bud and Popp’s friendship is one that is mutually beneficial, as the two coaches have been known to converse over scouting other teams and player personnel. On Wednesday, two of the best coaches in the NBA go to head — and it’s always great to see both of them reunite on the sidelines.

The Spurs run a similar offense to the Atlanta, always moving the ball and looking for an open shot. This gives the Atlanta Hawks an excellent opportunity to see great competition early on, while giving them insight into their own offensive and defensive schemes.
