BATTLE FOR THE 15TH ROSTER SPOT
The Atlanta Hawks waved non-roster invitees Arsalan Kazemi and Edgar Sosa after Friday’s game against New Orleans, narrowing the field for the 15th and final roster spot to Earl Barron, DeQuan Jones, Terran Petteway and Lamar Patterson. Kazemi and Sosa were longshots for the final roster spot going into camp, and were played minimally throughout the first two postseason games.
As it currently stands, Lamar Patterson has the best shot at the final roster spot. He has averaged 10 minutes per game in the first two preseason contests, and has played with members of Mike Budenholzer’s rotation regularly. Patterson lost weight this offseason in an attempt to get quicker, and it looks as if it is paying off. He is still somewhat erratic, but shows good chemistry with his teammates and could provide even more depth on the wing for the Atlanta Hawks.
Terran Petteway provides the biggest competition for Lamar Patterson, as the 6’6” former Nebraska swingman possesses a serviceable outside shot and could be a “3&D” player for the Hawks. If Mike Budenholzer pulls his starters and primary reserves early, watch for the battle between both Patterson and Petteway.
