Georgia Bulldogs: Missouri Is a Must-Win Game
By John Buhler
The Georgia Bulldogs host their SEC East foe, the Missouri Tigers, Between the Hedges on Saturday Night. This is a must-win game for the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Georgia Bulldogs enter Week 7 with a 4-2 (2-2) record against budding SEC East rival, the Missouri Tigers, who boast a 4-2 (1-2) record in 2015. Since Mizzou joined the SEC with Texas A&M back in Summer of 2012, UGA leads Mizzou 2-1 in head-to-head matchups. However, the road team has won all three meetings between the Dawgs and the Tigers.

Does UGA choose to buck the trend in 2015 with a strong home performance against Missouri on Homecoming Weekend? Let’s certainly hope so. Should the Georgia Bulldogs drop three straight conference games in October, the program might have some explaining to do.

Though Georgia enters the Week 7 game as a 16-point home favorite, let’s hope that the Dawgs don’t take Missouri lightly, even if they are starting a true freshman at quarterback in Drew Lock. Keep in mind, this is UGA starter Greyson Lambert‘s first year in the SEC, too.
I feel that it being a night game for Homecoming, 7 PM ET kickoff on the SEC Network, will only help the Georgia Bulldogs in this game. UGA took care of business in Columbia, MO in both 2012 and 2014, but came out flat in 2013 in an afternoon affair and lost the only game played between the Dawgs and Tigers Between the Hedges. More of an impetus to win this SEC East game.
This game has significance for one reason: this is an SEC East elimination game, as the loser would have three SEC losses before Halloween. No, neither Mark Richt or Gary Pinkel will be on the hot seat after losing in Week 7. They are two of the most successful coaches at their respective programs. Between Richt and Pinkel, their teams have won the last 4 SEC East Division Titles.

The loser of this game would be at best 5-3 in Conference Play. UGA would have to beat Florida, Kentucky, and Auburn, then hope for Florida to lose twice more to even sniff a chance at a title bout in Atlanta. For Mizzou, moving to 1-3 in the SEC would all but eliminate the Tigers from Atlanta dreams, as they would have lost the tiebreakers to Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia.
So let’s hope the Dawgs play some sound football on Saturday night. Wouldn’t the thought of beating Mizzou at Sanford Stadium for the first time, on Homecoming, to eliminate the two-time reigning SEC East Champs from reclaiming their throne be enough to get the Georgia Bulldogs fired up? How would it not? 16-point favorites or not, this is a must-win game for Georgia.
