Terry Godwin Has Arrived…In the Wildcat?
What if I told you that the Georgia Bulldogs would end their touchdown drought on a Terry Godwin designed run out of the Wildcat, against the Wildcats, deep in Wildcat territory. Would you have believed me? Maybe, but not after he dropped the jet sweep option, picked up his own fumble to score his first UGA touchdown.
Terry Godwin has come on in these last few games, particularly since the Missouri home victory. UGA needed another wide receiver to emerge besides Malcolm Mitchell in this offense. Turns out, it was Terry Godwin, just not in the way we had all imagined.
Godwin came to UGA as an athlete out of Hogansville, GA, a five-star one at that. So it isn’t surprising to see Mark Richt and OC Brian Schottenheimer to use his in an unconventional way to best use his unique set of skills.
Terry is at his best when he is able to make plays in space and the Wildcat seems to provide that. Should we see a pass option to a tight end or tailback when Godwin is receiving the direct snap, who knows what sort of interesting wrinkles that could unfold for the Georgia offense. Godwin did get drafted by the Atlanta Braves and will play with the UGA baseball team this spring.
