The Georgia Bulldogs have only played the Penn State Nittany Lions once before, back in 1982. Let’s try not to remember that game. However it’s a new era of Penn State football, as the Nittany Lions are in their second season under HC James Franklin. UGA fans remember Franklin from his time leading a competitive Vanderbilt Commodores team.

The last time UGA played Franklin, they lost to the ‘Dores in Nashville in the infamous Ramik Wilson Targeting Game. Vandy finished in the AP Top 25 in 2013 and went bowling for the third consecutive year before Franklin departed for Happy Valley.

Like so many of these potential bowl matchups for the Georgia Bulldogs, the sheer lack of meeting between some of these teams is astounding. Georgia hasn’t met Penn State on the gridiron since Herschel Walker won the Heisman Trophy 33 years ago!

Since Penn State was very middle of the pack in the Big Ten with their 7-5 (4-4) record, I’d like to think that the Georgia Bulldogs would stand as a one-score favorite over James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions should these two teams meet.
