Faton Bauta is transferring from Georgia Bulldogs

Faton Bauta, one of the Georgia Bulldogs’ three scholarship quarterbacks, is transferring away from the program after the dismissal of Mark Richt.

According to Seth Emerson of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, redshirt junior Faton Bauta will transfer from the Georgia Bulldogs. Bauta was one of three scholarship quarterbacks on the Georgia Bulldogs’ roster entering 2015 along with redshirt sophomore Brice Ramsey and current starter redshirt junior former Virginia Cavaliers transfer Greyson Lambert.

Bauta cemented a reputation while at the University of Georgia as arguably the hardest worker of the Mark Richt Era. He committed himself to becoming an SEC starting quarterback, but ultimately was not the accurate passer UGA hoped he could become, throwing four interceptions in the blowout loss to the Florida Gators on Halloween.

Since Faton Bauta has already graduated from the University of Georgia and is pursuing his post-graduate studies at this time, he qualifies for immediate eligibility wherever he chooses to go, probably to a Power 5 school that will allow him the strong possibility of starting. He will also not play in the upcoming bowl game, reports ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.

Will Faton Bauta follow Mark Richt to Coral Gables in 2016? Potentially, as Bauta is tremendously close with new Miami head coach Mark Richt. Bauta did play his last few years of high school at Dwyer High School near Boca Raton, Florida, which is coincidentally Richt’s hometown.

The problem with transferring to The U isn’t practicality, but that Miami already has a promising pocket passer in true sophomore Brad Kaaya. Perhaps Bauta would want to go to Coral Gables in a quasi-graduate assistant role with Mark Richt, while still having that one last year of eligibility.

That could very well be the route that Bauta chooses to go. Getting to play alongside Mark Richt one more year and compete for a starting gig isn’t all that bad of an option in 2016 for Faton Bauta.

I wanted it to work out so badly for Faton Bauta while he was at UGA, due in large part that he wanted to become a great player so badly for the Georgia Bulldogs. It didn’t work out in the end, but best of luck to him wherever he intends on going to play his senior season of college football.
