9. Quincy Carter (1998-2000)
Lavonya Quintelle “Quincy” Carter originally signed a letter of intent to play for in-state rival Georgia Tech in 1996, but the two-sport star opted to pursue a career in baseball after being drafted by the Chicago Cubs 52nd overall in the 1996 MLB Amateur Draft.
After two rather unsuccessful years in the Minor Leagues, Carter committed to the Georgia Bulldogs in 1998 and ended up beating out Nate Hybl for the starting quarterback gig. Carter ended up winning 1998’s SEC Freshman of the Year and led the Dawgs through the 2000 NCAA season before declaring for the 2001 NFL Draft.
Carter was a dual-threat passer for the Dawgs in the Jim Donnan Era of UGA football. He was 23-8 as a starter, leading the Georgia Bulldogs to two bowl games. In his UGA career, Quincy Carter threw for 6,447 passing yards and 35 touchdowns, boasting a 127.8 career quarterback rating. He left UGA after his junior season to play in the National Football League.
Carter was a second round pick by the Dallas Cowboys, going 53rd overall in the 2001 NFL Draft. Getting drafted in the second round in both Major League Baseball and in the NFL is a testament to the athleticism of the young Quincy Carter. He spent five seasons in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets, throwing 6,337 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.
