3. Eric Zeier (1991-94)

Eric Zeier was the transcendent quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs. Before Zeier came to the University of Georgia, he was a high school All-American play for the Marietta Blue Devils. Zeier helped elevate the previous perception of the passing program at the University of Georgia.

He played alongside running back great Garrison Hearst and twice finished in the Top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting (1993-94). Zeier threw for over 3,000 yards in a season twice for the Dawgs and finished with an impressive 11,153 career yards through the air.

Before Zeier starred at Georgia, UGA was a run-first program and rarely had a marquee quarterback (Fran Tarkenton, Buck Belue). Zeier’s 67 career touchdowns to 37 interceptions allowed to garner a stellar 137.5 career passer rating as a four-year starter for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Zeier was a first team All-American in 2004 and went in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft to the then Cleveland Browns. He played six years in the NFL with the Browns, the Baltimore Ravens and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring from football in 2000, serving primarily as a career backup quarterback.

Eric Zeier is still very much a part of the fabric of Dawg Nation as a popular broadcaster for Georgia Bulldogs games on the radio. Zeier had the best arm of a UGA quarterback until Matthew Stafford came along. Without Eric Zeier, Georgia may not have ever become a destination school for top-flight passers across the nation.
