Juwan Parker has yet to play this season for the Georgia Bulldogs’ basketball team due to an Achilles’ injury and may end up taking a medical redshirt.

Seth Emerson of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote for DawgNation that junior swingman Juwan Parker may have played his last game for the Georgia Bulldogs’ men’s basketball team, as he is still dealing with discomfort in his Achilles’.

Parker has not played this season for the Georgia Bulldogs and may end up taking a medical redshirt if his Achilles’ continues to bother him. Juwan Parker already graduated from the Terry College of Business with a degree in Management this past fall semester and may look to transfer as well as apply for a medical redshirt.

Parker is a Tulsa, Oklahoma native and may want to play his final two years of college ball closer to home. He could play right away at a new institution, as he has already completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia.

Juwan Parker played 33 games as a true freshman in 2013-14 and the first 14 of last season before hurting his Achilles’ mid-season in 2014-15. He then played four more games to finish out last year’s NCAA Tournament campaign with 18 games played.

Head coach Mark Fox remains optimistic that Parker could play this season, but did say that Juwan Parker did suffer a setback a few weeks ago. Fox said, “Maybe two weeks ago we did a test on him and it didn’t go well. We tried to do some things with him [Monday] and it did not respond well. His status is unchanged. I wish it would show some signs of progress.”

Juwan Parker along with fellow junior wing Kenny Paul Geno were supposedly going to help anchor the Dawgs out on the perimeter this season as swingmen. However, Parker has not played and Geno has come off the bench with Fox in favor of going with Houston Kessler down low with Yante Maten and J.J. Frazier, Kenny Gaines, and Charles Mann in the UGA backcourt.

Having Parker and Geno progress out on the wing was going to offset many of the issues the Dawgs had at forward entering 2015-16. However, it has been the strong play of Maten and the complementary play of freshmen Mike Edwards and Derek Ogbeide that have help give the Dawgs some bite down on the low post. The wing remains an issue as the Dawgs begin SEC play.
