Georgia Bulldogs win over Hogs in overtime, 76-73

The Georgia Bulldogs needed an extra period, but were able to get an impressive SEC win over the Arkansas Razorbacks at home in overtime, 76-73 Saturday.
The Georgia Bulldogs entered play Saturday night with a 10-6 (3-3) SEC record against a 9-9 (3-3) Arkansas Razorbacks team. The winner of this matchup at Stegeman Coliseum was going to stand as a résumé booster for either club eyeing a shot at an NCAA Tournament bid.
This back and forth battle on the hardwood needed an extra frame before deciding a victor. The Dawgs came bout on top over the Hogs, 76-73 Saturday night in overtime to move to 11-6 (4-3) on the 2015-16 NCAA season.
Although the Georgia Bulldogs shot miserably from the free throw line (16-30, 53.53%), the Dawgs managed to do enough from the field (26-59, 44.1%) and from beyond the arc (8-20, 40.0%) to outlast Arkansas in the overtime period.

The leading scorer for the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday night was none other than the outstanding scoring junior guard that is J.J. Frazier. Frazier was the Dawgs’ go-to scorer down the stretch against the Razorbacks with 26 points on 8-15 shooting, including 4-9 from three. He also had four rebounds, three assists, and three steals against Arkansas.
Sophomore power forward Yante Maten continues to assert himself as one of the NCAA’s most improved players in 2015-16 with yet another double-double for the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday night. Maten scored 17 points on 7-13 shooting and corralled 12 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. Yante Maten also had two assists and two blocks against the Hogs at home.
The other player for the Georgia Bulldogs that had double figures in scoring was senior guard Kenny Gaines, who had 16 points on 6-15 shooting, but that included 4-8 from three-point range. Gaines would also gather five rebounds, helping Georgia beat Arkansas on the glass 46-36 in their SEC contest.
Georgia did a fine job distributing the basketball, as 13 of their 26 field goals came on a UGA assist. Point guard Charles Mann led the way in that department with five assists of his own. He also had eight points, six rebounds, and a steal.

This was a hard-earned victory for the Georgia Bulldogs and they can appreciate their quality win over a tough Arkansas Razorbacks team. However, the Dawgs will have a tough matchup on their hands Tuesday night, as they will travel to Baton Rouge to take on freshman phenom Ben Simmons and the 12-7 (5-2) LSU Tigers at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Tipoff for that game is at 9:00 PM ET and it will air on ESPN. Great win, Go Dawgs!
