Be the ball

When the 2015 Atlanta Falcons were playing well, the team was doing a fantastic job of winning the turnover battle. However, once the offense struggled to maintain possession in close games, Atlanta would find itself having to play catchup, ultimately coming up short on Sundays.

Atlanta does have the guys on its roster to force turnovers, as it has players with either great ball skills or a knack for forcing fumbles in all three levels of their defense. The defense did a better job in 2015 than in recent years of aggressively trying to get the ball back for the offense.

The problem was that the offense was collectively careless with the football in 2015. There were too many interceptions and fumbles for the Atlanta Falcons to generate momentum on offense most of the season. The Atlanta Falcons offense has talent, but needs to prove that it can take better care of the football in 2016 if the team envisions itself as a Super Bowl LI contender.

All championship caliber teams tend to have the turnover differential in their favor. Sometimes it’s luck, but most of the time it has to do with focus and having the proper understanding of the size of every in-game situation. Hopefully 2015 provided a ton of footage for the 2016 Atlanta Falcons to become a better team with regards to ball security.
