Georgia Bulldogs: 5 playmakers who will thrive in 2016
By John Buhler
While losing redshirt senior wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell to the NFL will certainly sting the Georgia Bulldogs in the vertical passing game, one player that has a great opportunity to thrive in 2016 is true sophomore wideout Terry Godwin.
Godwin came to Georgia as a five-star athlete in 2015 and became the team’ No. 2 wide receiver by the end of the season. He’ll still have to work on his possession receiving, but with offensive coordinator Jim Chaney largely going to focus on getting his tight ends the football in the passing game, Godwin will continue to do what he does best by making big plays in space and downfield in the receiving game.
Joining Chaney’s offensive staff is former Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator James Coley as the Georgia Bulldogs’ new wide receivers coach. UGA was in a transitional period at that coaching position as Tony Ball went to LSU and Bryan McClendon switched position groups before joining Will Muschamp in South Carolina this upcoming season.
While Georgia still has a lot to prove at wide receiver, Terry Godwin has the potential to become one of the best wideouts to have played at Georgia in the last decade. A great start to his sophomore campaign in Athens will certainly trigger that notion.
