After the crushing loss to the Florida Gators in Jacksonville, one of the primary reasons for the Dawgs saving their season the rest of the way was the improved play of true freshmen wide receiver Terry Godwin.

Coming into Georgia, it was up in the air with regards to what position Terry Godwin was going to play in Athens. Was he a wide receiver or was he a defensive back? Since Georgia liked Godwin’s hands above all else, he became the team’s No. 2 wide receiver behind redshirt senior Malcolm Mitchell by the end of the season.

With Mitchell now entering the 2016 NFL Draft, it seems that Terry Godwin is more than ready to become the Dawgs’ No. 1 wideout in 2016. In his freshman year, Godwin showcased the ability to factor in the vertical passing game, in possession receiving, and even in the bubble screen passing game.

He’ll have several opportunities to take charge of the Georgia Bulldogs wide receivers room with a new position coach James Coley, the former offensive coordinator under Al Golden with the Miami Hurricanes.

We’re not expecting Godwin to become an A.J. Green type of dynamic receiving threat in his sophomore year, but he should undoubtedly get to a Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Conley type of receiving level by the end of the 2016 NCAA campaign as UGA’s No. 1 wideout.
