Atlanta Falcons: Vic Beasley moves to linebacker
The Atlanta Falcons‘ Vic Beasley has made a recent transition from defensive end to linebacker. What does this mean for the future of the Falcons?
It’s no secret that Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn is making some changes this season. One of his biggest priorities this offseason is to test the versatility of players and explore their potentials at different positions.
Last season – Vic Beasley’s rookie season – he played right and left defensive end. He totaled 26 tackles, four sacks, and one interception in 2015.
Last month, Atlanta Falcons’ coach Dan Quinn, along with defensive coordinator Richard Smith and linebackers coach Jeff Ulbrich, were able to convince Beasley to make the move from defensive end to linebacker.

It took viewing film of strong side linebackers and envisioning how his talents and skills could be incorporated to convince Beasley the switch would be a good one. Though he took some time to consider the offer before jumping on it, Beasley ultimately seems ready for the challenge.
“It’s a lot of responsibility but I just have to put in the time and study to be the best I can be,” said Beasley. “I know what I’m capable of. I just have to prepare my best.”
One concern is Beasley’s size. At 6’2”, 240 lbs., he is working hard this offseason to reach his goal of about 250 lbs. It’s his skill in combination with his size that is expected to aid him at linebacker. According to Coach Quinn, “Although he’s not a big man, he’s powerful when he uses it.”
Beasley is also reportedly studying film of the Denver Broncos linebacker, Von Miller, and plans to “mirror” some of his aspects.
Yes, Atlanta Falcons fans, Beasley is studying the ways of Von Miller…the linebacker that caused a game changing fumble on the Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton during Super Bowl 50.
Beasley was also found putting in extra work on day one of Atlanta Falcons OTAs as he was one of the last players to leave the field on Monday night.
He appears to be dedicated to the new task at hand. “Coach Quinn entrusted a lot in me,” said Beasley. “They are banking on me and they want to see me help this team in the best way possible.”
