After some disappointing news regarding Jonathan Ledbetter, the Georgia Bulldogs can feel like they at least ended the week on a high after receiving commitments from two big time prospects at Nike’s ‘The Opening’ football camp.

After what no doubt started out as a difficult day for Kirby Smart, he’ll enjoy SEC media day this week after receiving commitments from two more four star prospects on Sunday.

The nations #10 Offensive Tackle Andrew Thomas and #5 Running Back Toneil Carter both committed to UGA on their final day in Oregon and in doing so, add to a 2017 class that is currently sitting as high as #2 in the nation in some rankings.

VIA Athens Banner-Herald:

"The 6-foot-4 ½, 318-pound Thomas is rated as the nation’s No. 56 overall prospect by Scout.com. He is the nation’s No. 10 offensive tackle prospect by the 247Sports Composite. He picked Georgia over Notre Dame and Clemson.“I just have a great relationship with the staff, especially Coach (Sam) Pittman,” Thomas said on ESPNU. “They have a great business program, that’s what I want to major in. Then they didn’t sign a tackle last year in 2016 so it’s a great opportunity for me to start as a freshman.”Thomas said Pittman, the Bulldogs’ offensive line coach, has come by Pace Academy about four times since his hire in December."

More from ATL All Day

"“This has been a great day to be a Dawg!!” Pittman tweeted after Thomas went public with his commitment. “Great to have guys that want to stay home. #SicEm17#freakshow#DreamTeam.”The 5-11, 190-pound Carter is No. 70 by Scout and was recruited by Texas A&M and LSU among others. He is the No. 5 running back in the nation, according to the 247Sports."

This weekend also saw six other UGA commits play together for the first time as part of Nike’s ‘The Opening’ football camp, which brought together many of the top high school players from across the country. Although none of these players will be suiting up for the Georgia Bulldogs for at least another year, QB Jake Fromm and S Richard LeCounte III both earned rave reviews from coaches.

While the reports on Ledbetter are disappointing, it’s great to see the team continue build what is already starting to look like a fantastic first recruiting class for Smart.
