Atlanta Braves trade SS Erick Aybar to Detroit Tigers
By Bryce Koon
The Atlanta Braves traded shortstop Erick Aybar to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. In exchange, the Braves acquire veteran infielder Mike Aviles and minor league catcher Kade Scivicque.
Well, it looks like the Atlanta Braves finally found a trade partner for shortstop Erick Aybar. Also, the much-anticipated debut of top prospect Dansby Swanson will take place Wednesday. It was reported Tuesday afternoon that the Braves had traded Aybar to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for infielder Mike Aviles and minor league catcher Kade Scivicque.
Due to Aybar’s struggles, it has been near impossible to believe that he could be traded . During the first half of the year, Aybar ranked near the bottom of the list in both offensive and defensive outputs. Recently, his production has picked up and this made him a more attractive trade chip to opposing teams.

Aybar will most likely fill the SS void after the injury bug hit the left side of the Tigers infield. If he can continue his recent success he should provide a nice piece off the bench for Tigers manager Brad Ausmus.
This trade brought back veteran IF Aviles , who will either be optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett or released. The trade also brought back minor league catcher Kade Scivicque. Scivicque was drafted last year in the 4th round out of LSU and will continue to play at High-A Carolina for the rest of the 2016 campaign.
So far this year he owns a slash line of .282/.325/.380 during his time in the Tigers minor league system. He is seen as a “safe” prospect, with a high floor but low ceiling. It is not out of the question for us to project him as a serviceable backup catcher in the majors.

Once again, Atlanta Braves GM John Coppolella has proved that he can find some value in his struggling players. He acquired some depth for the middle infield and a minor league prospect in an are of need for the club.
