The Georgia State Panthers were once again beat badly on the ground, as they took a 48-14 thrashing at the hands of the Air Force Falcons.

In last week’s article I talked about how in order for the Georgia State Panthers to improve they would have to improve on their run defense and their own running game. These two keys were not evident on Saturday.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick start with a touch down on its their opening drive before the Falcons made it a 27-14 game going into the half. The Falcons completely dominated the second half, as they scored the games last 21 points to make it a 48-14 win over the Panthers.

The story was much of the same from last week as the offensive line struggled to open up holes. In turn, the run game suffered as they only mustered a measly 27 yards on the ground, yep 27 yards. If not for quarterback Connor Manning, the Panthers would not have had much of an offense at all on Saturday. It seems safe to say that the Panthers have found their starting quarterback as Manning did play well.

Air Force absolutely dominated the Panthers defense, racking up 531 yards total on their way to this 48-14 drubbing. One stat that pops out is that the Falcons dominated time of possession 45 minutes to 15. It is hard to play good defense when you are out there for most of the game.

We saw some of the same problems against Air Force that we saw on the opening weekend.  This led to Georgia State looking way in over their heads in Week 2. I don’t feel it is necessary for fans to push the panic button just yet. However, unless the coaching staff can make some serious changes this could turn out to be a long season.

The schedule only gets tougher, as the Panthers will travel to face the Wisconsin Badgers. The game will kickoff Saturday at noon.
