The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are now 3-2 after this week’s loss at home to the Miami Hurricanes. Though they controlled much of the action on Saturday, it was turnovers that kept the Yellow Jackets out of reach for the win.

The No. 14 Miami Hurricanes scored two defensive touchdowns on fumble returns, giving them a 21 point lead over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets were unable to fully recover from their mistakes, and the Hurricanes went on to win the game 35-21. After this victory for Miami, former Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt is now 14-0 in Atlanta.

Both turnovers took place in less than a minute in the second quarter, giving Miami a 28-7 lead over Georgia Tech by halftime. It was the Miami Hurricanes Shaquille Quarterman and Joe Jackson who had the fumble returns that changed the game. If things weren’t going bad enough for Yellow Jackets quarterback Justin Thomas, he later threw the ball right into the hands of Miami linebacker Michael Pinckney with just 2:21 remaining.

"”We gifted them two scores in the second quarter,” Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said. ”It ended up being a big momentum changer and a big part of the game. … We made way too many mistakes.”Thomas said he was looking to pass before being hit from behind by Trent Harris, forcing the fumble recovered by Quarterman. He said he wanted to pitch to Clinton Lynch two plays later but said ”he wasn’t looking, so I pulled it in. … I was going down at the same time and the ball came out.”It was the first time a Georgia Tech opponent returned two fumbles for touchdowns.A fourth-down pass by Thomas was intercepted by linebacker Michael Pinckney with about two minutes remaining.”They didn’t do nothing to stop us,” Thomas said. ”We stopped ourselves the whole game.”"
