Forget his salary or the fact that the Yankees want to get something decent in return and take a look at the rest of the starting catchers market.

The best catcher in this year’s market (Wilson Ramos) has gone down with an injury and requires surgery. He has made it known as well that he prefers to stay in Washington with the Nationals. It is likely he does just that, though at a discounted rate.

The other name floating around a lot for the Braves has been Matt Wieters. The problem with Wieters is twofold. He has failed to stay healthy for the past few seasons and goes through long stretches of cold spells even for a catcher at the plate.

Bringing Brian McCann back would be a great move for the Braves, it would allow them to have a lefty platoon option with right-handed hitter Tyler Flowers. It would give the Braves another power bat lower in the order and offer the Braves a great leadership presence in the clubhouse.

While it is hard to say what does or does not go on in a clubhouse on the surface it appears that the Braves need a leader.  If that is the case McCann would fill two roles that the Braves look to be in need of.
