Back Up Jace Peterson and Dansby Swanson

Jace Peterson and Dansby Swanson have both been surprising this season though admittedly on very different talent levels. Swanson is living up to the billing as a top pick looking great at shortstop and hitting the ball very solidly.

Jace Peterson on the other hand was sent down to triple A earlier this season after he struggled. After coming back Peterson has looked like a solid starting 2nd baseman hitting the ball hard playing great defense and coming up with clutch hits.

Both players should have starting spots locked down for next season, but that doesn’t mean some insurance behind them both isn’t needed. The Braves need to sign or acquire an above average veteran bench player who can help Swanson and Peterson as they continue to learn on the job.

Daniel Castro and Chase d’Arnaud are not going to cut it if the Braves are expecting to compete. While both players play hard they are below average bench players who are not going to do a lot to help the team win.

Free agent options are very thin, but there are upgrades considering the level of back-ups the Braves currently possess.
