The Atlanta Hawks are officially making Dennis Schroder their point guard of the future with a four-year, $70 million contract extension.

On October 26, the future of young starting point guard Dennis Schroder with the Atlanta Hawks was set. The Hawks and Schroder have come to an agreement on a four-year contract extension, in which Schroder broke the news himself on social media. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the deal will be for $70 million and will kick in beginning in the 2017-18 season.

Schroder has started just 16 games over the course of his first three NBA seasons, and averaged 11 points and 2.6 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game last season. Now, Schroder will be running the show for the Atlanta Hawks, starting with their season opener on Thursday against the Washington Wizards.

Four More Years of Schroder

According to Marc Stein and Zach Low of ESPN, “Sources say $62 million of Schroder‘s new deal is guaranteed — at a flat annual rate of $15.5 million — with the remaining $8 million achievable through incentives.” This contract extension makes Schroder the third member of the NBA’s 2013 draft class to land an extension before the annual Halloween deadline for deals on Monday.

Additionally, this deal speak volumes for Schroder and the faith that the Hawks management has in him. If it wasn’t apparent after trading former All-Star Jeff Teague in the offseason that the Hawks see great potential in Schorder as their new starting point guard, it has now been inked in the form of a 4-year, $70 million contract extension.

VIA Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

"“I am excited to sign this long-term deal with the Hawks,” Schroder said in a statement released by the team. “Since coming from Germany as a rookie, this organization and the entire city of Atlanta has embraced me and watched me grow. I would like to thank my teammates, the coaching staff and the front office for having faith in me. I’m determined to keep improving as a player and I believe that our team has a chance to accomplish some special things together.”"
