The Final spot in the rotation is expected to be up for grabs in spring training though with the love that fans and coaches have for velocity Foltynewicz more than likely has an edge in trying to grab the final rotation spot.

Foltynewicz has a great arm and velocity but struggles to pitch past the 5th inning. Add in the fact that his velocity is often thrown very straight and hit a very long way and in reality Folty is not as good as many fans seem to think that he is. Folty is going to have good games based simply on his ability to over power hitters. The problem for Folty will be when he doesn’t have his best stuff can he learn how to truly pitch and not just throw the ball?

While he is the early favorite long term Folty is not the answer to any of the Braves’ rotation problems. The other most likely candidate for the final rotation spot would be Matt Wisler. Wisler is an interesting option who has shown flashes of being a very good pitcher at times and has looked like a softball pitcher at others.  Wisler more than likely will start the season in the minors and continue to work on developing his pitches.

Collmenter filled in nicely at the end of last season for the Braves as a starter and should be the backup starter in case of injury or trades. The Braves have improved their rotation and should continue to get better as their stable of young arms start to become ready for the Major Leagues.
