Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has cleared up the rumors surrounding the fact that he was reportedly going to ask for a trade.

Freeman took some time to clear up the rumors that have surrounded him after it was leaked that he may ask for a trade, he had this to say per ESPN:

“This is coming out of my mouth: I definitely know I’m going to be playing for the Atlanta Falcons,” Freeman said. “This is the team I want to play for. I’m almost 100 percent for sure business will be taken care of because we’re all in this thing to win and have success.”

This is good news for the Falcons and Freeman considering it sounds like Freeman isn’t unhappy in Atlanta and would like to stay with the Falcons long term. The only loser in that scenario would be Tevin Coleman considering that Coleman will likely move on to a starting job as soon as his contract is up with the Falcons.

Freeman is entering what will be the final season of his rookie contract and made it known that he is ready to be paid like the star running back that he has become. The problem for the Falcons will be limited cap space and multiple positions left to fill in free agency. Signing Freeman may have to wait for another season until the Falcons can decide how much they would be willing to pay Freeman.

Freeman was a huge part of the Falcons’ success this season and is an important part of keeping the League’s top offense rolling. The ability that he has to run routes as well as truck through blockers or take quick cuts and reverse field should demand the Falcons attention in locking him up.

The fact that Freeman is so adamant about staying with the Falcons is good news and means that a long term deal will likely happen soon.
