Most “old school” Atlanta Braves fans might maintain that Horner wasn’t underappreciated. They might say that he didn’t live up to the hype that he generated in 1978 as the Number 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft. Reality is, though, that in his time in a Braves uniform he was the only other star other than Dale Murphy. Yes, could he have worked out and taken care of his body? Of course. Horner was with the Braves from 1978-1986, and during the 1980s averaged .272 at the plate with 179 HRs. Horner collected 491 RBI, 755 hits, and scored 429 runs. He also hit 4 HRs in a single game. His career was cut short by injury, and maybe that could’ve been avoided, but he was an amazing player. And very underappreciated.
