The 2017 Atlanta Braves are just a few days away from starting the season, and three local Atlanta boys will represent their hometown team

1. SS-Dansby Swanson (Kennesaw)

Not only is it a rare thing for a hometown kid to play for his childhood team, it is something completely different altogether to come in as the # 1 overall player in the MLB Draft, and to be the presumed future “face of the franchise”. Even stranger still is the fact that said player wasn’t drafted by the hometown team, but was sent there by another team in a trade.

But that’s Dansby Swanson from Kennesaw, and 2017 will be his first full season manning Short Stop for the Atlanta Braves. This Marietta High product went on to have a complete and accolade filled career at Vanderbilt and was Drafted #1 overall in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Hopes are high for Swanson in 2017. The loss of Andrelton Simmons was one that Braves fans haven’t forgotten or forgiven. But if Swanson is who he looks to be, and produces like it looks like he will, fans will fawn for the kid from Kennesaw.
