Atlanta Braves: Previewing and Projecting the Rotation
By Kit Anderson
- R.A. Dickey
Predicting what a forty-plus year old knuckle baller is going to do is difficult especially considering that the veteran starter has defied expectations for the majority of his career. He has surprised both negatively early on in his career and turned into a dominant starter later on with the Mets.
Dickey’s career is coming to an end soon and this season could determine how soon that is. He is a talented pitcher when he is on but as is the case with the knuckle ball when he is off gets hit very hard. His spring numbers are not a cause for concern as long as they don’t continue early in the month of April.
Projected statline- 9-15 record-4.22 ERA-180 Innings Pitched-132 K’s
Dickey will have his moments in a Braves uniform but it is doubtful that the Braves are going to want to exercise Dickey’s option for next season if the young arms the Braves have in the farm progress as expected. R.A. Dickey is a good player and seems to be an even better person the knuckle baller will be a good innings eater in Atlanta for this season and should provide some interesting moments watching the opposing hitters and Braves catchers try to catch up to the knuckle ball.
