Have you ever seen Fred Couples’ shot at 12 in 1992? If so, you know what destiny looks like. I know. The idea of destiny is a sentimental notion in a space that is supposed to be bleached with perspicacious knowledge. Still, it’s true regardless.

Ultimately, and every now and then, we are reminded that the improbable is capable and that the unthinkable becomes reality. Mickelson’s shot at 13? Jack’s 31 on the back nine in 1986? Couples’ ball staying out of the water on 12? Larry Mize in 1987? Crenshaw and the rainbow? Woods’ wedge on 16?

You can call it what you want. But I saw those things, and the only thing I can come up with is destiny. Someone in this field will catch that lightning, and destiny will play her hand. Or the lightning, and other extraneous factors will decide. Either way, the storm is coming. And it will be fun to watch.
