Rory McIlroy is a 4-time major champion. Most know this because they play a certain video game. When Tiger Woods unceremoniously left the golf stage, McILroy stepped in, won tournaments, won respect, and won hearts. Most players on tour only have good things to say, and all players respect his game. We’ve seen him work a course, and a field, as well as anyone in the last decade. He has been the face of golf internationally for years.

But, he too, like Jordan Spieth, had his bugaboo on the back nine at Augusta. He, too, had a 5 stroke lead and blew it. And he hasn’t been the same player since. But his game is still pristine. He’s played the course enough to know it. Can he buck history, and the elements, and achieve the career Grand Slam, etching his name in golf lore? Can he conquer history? Can he conquer his history at this course?
