The Atlanta Hawks have many weighty decisions to make this off-season but none bigger than what to do about Paul Millsap who is opting out of his player option to become a free agent. Should the Hawks bring back Paul long term?

Paul Millsap has become the face of the Atlanta Hawks, the “anchorman” who helps the Hawks with a team first mentality and ability to take over the game when he really needs to. Millsap is the Hawks best player at this point and will now head into free agency hoping to come  back to Atlanta.

Bringing back Paul Millsap has to be the Hawks priority this off-season with him the team is a contender granted one that may not be able to make it past the first round again but a contender nonetheless. Millsap provides the Hawks with a much needed all-star player.

While the Hawks may hesitate based on Millsap’s age the 32-year old forward has proven he is aging well and it has also been well documented players are aging differently in the league now. Age seems to be catching up with NBA stars at a much slower pace that may not be a coincidence considering the less physical nature of basketball in this era.

Aside from dealing with the Dwight Howard debacle Paul Millsap should the Hawks sole focus this off-season adding Millsap back would be a great move that would assuredly keep  Paul in Atlanta for a long time to come.

The Hawks other off-season priorities include deciding whether to bring THJ back and what to do with the problem that is Dwight Howard. Howard has made it known he was not happy with the way his minutes were managed throwing his teammates under the bus along the way.

Howard has been a focal point of a lot of problems in his time in the league leaving almost all his teams in better shape than when he was there and leaving on less than amicable terms. Once the Hawks lock up Paul Millsap their attention will turn to Howard and if they can find a way to unload the veteran center.
