The Atlanta Hawks have a lot of free agents to make decisions on this off-season but could the Hawks opt to ignore them all and go after Steph Curry?

Seven games. That is the total games the Atlanta Hawks managed to get out of the 2017 NBA Playoffs. Granted, they played a Washington Wizards squad that took the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference to seven games, but the Hawks were sent home packing in the first round.

Coming into the 2016-17 season, the Hawks signed Dwight Howard, and just like that there was a buzz in the air surrounding the team. For years the Eastern Conference has been considered the weakest of the two conferences in the NBA, with LeBron James all but being guaranteed a trip to the conference finals no matter which team he was on.

It hasn’t even been three years since Atlanta clinched the top seed in the East with a 60-22 record, and yet the team decided to trade away all the pieces that made them a viable threat to LeBron James.

So with all that being said, should the Hawks pursue a superstar this upcoming summer, and might that player be none other than Steph Curry himself?

Being a huge sports fan comes with the ability to see both sides or an argument. First, why would Atlanta try and sign a player like Curry knowing they need to lock down their own players? Second, why in the world would Curry drop everything in Golden State where they have assimilated arguably the greatest offensive team in NBA history to come to Atlanta?

The Hawks without a doubt need to sign some free agents this summer, but why put all your balls in one basket when you can put them in multiple? By far the biggest obstacles Atlanta has to face this summer is one, do they start from scratch or two, just press forward by spending top dollar on a variety of players to assemble a threat in the Eastern Conference.

As for Mr. Curry, it’s pretty hard to believe that he would give up everything he has worked for to build the Warriors franchise from the ground up. He has stayed true through the thick and thin, and has been rewarded with the front office signing Kevin Durant this past summer.

Now for arguments sake let’s say the Hawks do decide to go all in on trying to persuade Curry to jump ship to Atlanta. The front office here in Peachtree City is not only going to have to be ready to dish out some serious money, but will also have to part ways with some of the players who deserve a pay raise after staying loyal to the franchise.

It’s safe to say the Hawks will be in the conversation this summer when it comes to signing big free agents, but when it comes to Curry you can all but be certain he remains a Warrior for years to come.
