Georgia Swarm: The Most Exciting Local Team You’ve Never Heard Of

The Georgia Swarm is the local representative in the National Lacrosse League. And while you might not have heard of them, they are closing out a record-setting season.

There have been many reasons to pay attention to the sports scene in and around Atlanta these last few months. The University of Georgia has a new football coach after 15 years. Georgia Tech Men’s Basketball made a nice NIT run. The Falcons made it to the Super Bowl (sigh). The Hawks made another playoff run (sigh). Atlanta United FC is doing incredibly well in their first ever season. The Braves are in year two of a reconstruction and have a new fancy stadium that comes with a launching pad. The best team, though, might be the Georgia Swarm.

Who, might you ask? The Georgia Swarm. They would be your local National Lacrosse League team, and they are straight up killing it this year. Like…SportsCenter type killing it. And I don’t mean killing your bottom line, losing viewers, and firing everyone. I mean they are so exciting they make it on “SC Top 10” regularly.

This team, a 2015 transplant from the land of 10,000 lakes, has dominated NLL play in 2017. This Saturday, May 20th, at 7:05 PM, the Swarm will host Toronto in Game Two (Best of 3) to determine who moves on to the National Finals. Georgia currently leads the series 1-0.

According to the Georgia Swarm website:

"We have the #1 ranked team in the World! Your Swarm finished the regular season with a 13-5 record and has home-field advantage throughout the playoffs as the #1 overall seed. We set a new NLL record for most goals scored in a season with 266 and feature the NLL Scoring Champion in forward Lyle Thompson who is the favorite to win NLL MVP. In total, we have 16 1st-Round picks on a 20-man roster!"

Get that? This team that you’ve probably never heard of, or seen in person, has broken the NLL scoring record, features the National Scoring Champion, and is one game away from the National Final.

This writer says it’s time to show the Georgia Swarm some love. This writer says that we should fill the hive this Saturday night. This writer says it is time to SWARM!
