The Atlanta Braves have a tough decision to make after learning that Freddie Freeman will be gone for an extended period of time. After getting hot and climbing back near .500 it seems as if the team is headed in the opposite direction yet again. Should the Braves begin to sell?

Selling may not have been one of the Atlanta Braves top goals considering the fact they are trying to win and sell tickets in the new stadium. After losing their best player they may begin to reconsider their priorities as to whether selling off veterans and allowing their young talent to play is such a bad idea.

The answer is a difficult one considering that the Braves sit second in the NL East despite being six games under .500.  Selling may not be popular among the Braves faithful but it is the right move to make for a franchise that has plenty of talent in the minor leagues.

Trading veteran pieces like R.A. Dickey or Jaime Garcia in favor of giving the Braves young arms a chance to prove themselves is the move to make and one that the Braves need to make sooner rather than later. The lack of production from many of the Braves veteran pieces are already devaluing what price they did have on the trade market.

Bartolo Colon is one example of a player that has likely lost most of the value he did carry on the trade market. The Braves should opt to give Colon every chance to regain that value before moving him to the bullpen if they are unable to move him.

Keeping Colon around for the younger pitchers would not be a bad idea either considering the amount of respect that the Met’s young rotation had for Colon. No doubt the Braves are sunk without Freeman and now is the time to begin to sell off veteran players.
