The Atlanta Hawks have undergone a massive reorganization in the Front Office. Now, it looks like they’ve found their new GM.

Heavy rumors began to swirl Wednesday morning regarding the imminent and ongoing General Manager search for our Atlanta Hawks. After the mini-scandal and ignominious departure of successful GM Danny Ferry, Wes Wilcox was brought in as GM and Coach Budenholzer was given addition responsibilities as President of Basketball Operations in 2015.

In the years hence, a precipitous and noticeable decline in production from the Hawks caused ownership to announce imminent changes and restructuring. In steps Travis Schlenk.

The word is that Atlanta has settled on Schlenk as the new GM. He would come to Atlanta via the Golden State Warriors franchise. You know…the one headed to their 3rd straight NBA Finals.

There is no guarantee of success, naturally, but it is a good sign that Mr. Schlenk comes from a healthy organization. An organization that clearly has done some things right. One might even say they cracked the code of being a perennial NBA power.

His bio on NBA.com reads as follows:

"Travis Schlenk, 41, is in his 12th season with the Golden State Warriors, and his fifth as assistant general manager. In this role, Schlenk reports directly to General Manager Bob Myers and assists in the management of all day-to-day basketball operations, including all player-related matters. With more than 16 years of experience in the NBA, Schlenk has held jobs at virtually every level of basketball operations, including positions in the video room, on the bench, scouting and in the front office."

The stated rumor now is that the Hawks and Schlenk are in serious contract negotiations. Meaning, it’s all about the numbers, but that, in principle, they’ve agreed to terms.

If true, Schlenk, a former Asst. Coach, video guy, and Director of Player Personnel, brings with him a resume that seems to read competent and varied.

Success is never guaranteed, but Travis Schlenk seems to be a solid, if not quality pick. Let’s just see if they can get the numbers right.
