The Atlanta Braves’ shortstop of the future has looked anything but in his first full season as a starting player struggling to make consistent hard contact and his fielding has taken a hit as well. Despite his struggles fans need to remain patient with Swanson.

Dansby Swanson has looked bad in the early going for the Atlanta Braves he has been unable to get hits consistently or offer consistent defense. Despite his struggles Braves fans need to give Swanson at least a full season to show signs of life.

Swanson started this season with high expectations and pressure that he hasn’t faced before in his career. His Minor League track record is a very small sample size and in fairness likely was not enough time to get ready to face Major League pitching.

For Swanson to become the player he is capable of he does not need to be sent back to the minors or to be jettisoned in any other fashion he needs to continue to start and be given the patience of Braves fans. While this will only extend so far for a certain amount of time it is the right thing to do for Swanson at this point.

He is hitting an uninspired .194 and in more AB’s has less hits than the final two months he played last season. The hope for the Braves is that Swanson will catch fire at some point if that fails to happen it will be interesting to see what decision they make as to his future with the Braves beyond next season.

Swanson was the centerpiece of an offer the Braves had to acquire Chris Sale instead they opted to stick with Swanson, that decision is looking less wise at this moment but Swanson has a long time to prove they made the right decision.
