Atlanta Braves: Sellers or Buyers at the Break?
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves are sitting well below .500 and are continuing to drop games to teams like the Phillies. Sitting nearly a dozen games out of the wildcard or division race should they consider selling?
Saying the Atlanta Braves should not be sellers at this point in the season may be a hard outlook to understand but it is where the Braves are at as of now. Despite the fact the Braves are very unlikely to catch any of the teams in front of them the Braves should not become sellers at the deadline.
Becoming sellers would send a bad message to the fan base and hurt ticket sales in the new park. While it is a team sport it is also a business and the Braves will make the best business decision despite what the fan base wants either way.
In this case selling would hurt the business and the fan base leaving the Braves hurting for wins and ticket sales. The idea that they may become buyers is not that far fetched if you consider what adding an improvement or two could do to the roster.
Adding to the team could help them get over the hump and finish around .500 a mark they have struggled to reach at all this season. If the Braves could add to the bullpen and improve the rotation by keeping Colon out of it the team has a very good chance of finding that mark again.
Transitioning to a team that can compete with the likes of Washington or the Dodgers is not going to happen this season that is a process that will likely begin in earnest this off-season. For now the Braves focus will remain where it should on ticket sales and finding a way to get their team to the .500 mark or over.
