Atlanta Braves fans are growing impatient with their young shortstop, while the disappointment is understandable Swanson is here to stay. Fans need to understand that he is the shortstop of the future and will get better with time and learn to adjust to Major League pitching.

Giving up on Dansby Swanson being the Atlanta Braves’ shortstop of the future is premature and not considering how much Swanson has had to mature in such a short time. He has spent very little time in the minor leagues and cannot be expected to jump to pace with the Major Leagues especially with the rough start that he has suffered.

While there has been a lot of clamoring to send Swanson back down to the minor leagues there are multiple problems with that idea. The biggest would be what would sending Swanson back down to the minor leagues do to help him grow and become the Major League player that he needs to?

The second problem with that is finding a player who could fill in for Swanson at shortstop for a long period of time. Jace Peterson is the only utility man the Braves have in their system and he has struggled this year as well. All of the Braves other options have even less success than Swanson has and would do little if anything to improve the team. Even if the Braves found an improvement it would do nothing to improve the team long term.

Dansby Swanson has not looked over matched and has gone through hot stretches where the ball was hit hard right at players. His continued struggles if anything have damaged his confidence and moving him back to the minor leagues would only complicate matters.

Swanson has to much talent to struggle as he has been this season for much longer, fans are going to have to remain patient with the rookie and realize that Swanson is here to stay.
