Atlanta Braves: Five Players to Trade Before the Break
By Kit Anderson
- Trading Mike Foltynewicz Sooner Than Later is Important
Trading Mike Foltynewicz may seem like an odd move to make considering the Braves are likely to move on from Jaime Garcia but it is important for the Braves to trade Folty. He has at times been the most consistent Braves pitcher in the rotation and been blown off the field at others.
His temper has still been on display this season though calmed compared to seasons past. His ability to pitch and not throw has improved as well but what hasn’t improved are the results. His ERA remains ballooned well over 4 and is yet to string a long consistent string of quality starts together.
That and the fact that the Braves farm system is full of up and coming starting pitchers means it is time for the Braves to move on from the flame thrower. There is no question that the Braves could find someone to over pay based solely on the fact that Folty is still young and has the velocity that he does.
Trading him in favor of developing a pitcher that could be in the Braves rotation is the right move to make though an unlikely one for the Braves. No doubt the Braves have plenty of moves to make before the trading deadline.
