Bob Horner (1978-1986)

Bob Horner broke into the Major Leagues on June 16th of 1978  but was a first round draft pick and first overall at the young age of 20.  He is the 11th player in the Major Leagues to hit 4 home runs in one game and is famous for hitting 4 homers in one game and still losing the game (11-8 against the Expos). This game proved to be one of the most disappointing games in all of MLB history. Even with the loss, Braves truly appreciated Horner’s accomplishments. Bob Horner’s talents showed off as soon as he stepped onto the field. In his rookie year he hit 23 homers, 33 homers in the following season, and added 35 more in his 1980 season. In all of Horner’s seven seasons as a Brave, he had at least 20 homers in each and in 3 seasons he hit more than 30 accumulating a WAR of 21.7. He played his last game on June 18th and retired at the age of 30 with a career OPS of .839 and 218 home runs total earning him a place as a top Atlanta Braves first baseman.
