Atlanta Braves: Should Add Sonny Gray

The Atlanta Braves have plenty of up and coming pitching but they should continue to build their rotation and add Sonny Gray. While the cost of Gray will not be cheap it could well be worth it in the long run considering the free agency price of pitching.

The Atlanta Braves may have more than enough pitching options as is but not all of the Braves pitching options in their rotation are good ones. Bartolo Colon and Jaime Garcia should soon be moved from the rotation one cut or moved to the bullpen and the other likely traded.

While they have the chance investing in Sonny Gray is a great idea considering he is still trying to find the ace form he had early in his career and a move to the NL could benefit both him and the Braves.

The problem for the Braves will be how expensive the price will be for Gray and if the bidding war goes higher than Gray’s value. That is unlikely however, considering the free agency price for even below average pitching much less a pitcher like Gray who has such huge upside.

Adding Gray to the rotation would complete a youth movement that the Braves are headed towards in their rotation leaving likely only R.A. Dickey as the Braves lone veteran in the rotation. The price for Gray has been greatly disputed but it would likely mean the Braves would part with at least one of their top three prospects.

Cost in free agency this coming off-season against the value of trading young up and coming players will have to be weighed before the Braves make any such decision. But you can be sure with the active front office that the Braves have that inquiries are being made and it would not be shocking to see Gray in a Braves uniform in the near future.
