The Atlanta Braves wrap up a three game set with the San Diego Padres Thursday night. The next six games are a big tell-tale for Atlanta.

Don’t look now, but our beloved Atlanta Braves are quietly coalescing. With a record of (37-40), and that after another poor performance from, the now DFA’d, Bartolo Colon, the Braves are just three games under water. In 2007, Braves fans would be howling. In 2017, they might start howling for a different reason.

The .500 water mark is important for so many reasons. The most important reason is that most “experts” sniffed in the off-season that the Braves could or would never sniff .500 in 2017. If most had laid money then, it would’ve been that, after June, Atlanta would be 10+ games below even.

Another obvious reason that it is significant and incumbent to bring this up in June is that they’ve done it without Freddie Freeman. I, like most, surmised that our Braves’ season was probably over when he went down for 10 weeks. Lo and behold, not only are they not done, they have slowly improved.

Freeman is vocally and verbosely trumpeting his imminent return, and doing so by moving to 3rd base. Name another player who is the best player on the team who is willing to change positions. You can’t.

The Atlanta Braves are (20-20) at home, which is duly better than a month ago. They have 4 more road games before coming home for a short stint against Houston (not easy), and then hit the road for a 4 game set at Washington (not easy).

If the Braves can win tonight, consequently winning their 4th series in a row, and then win the series at Oakland, they can head home within one game of .500. Then they get Freddie back. If they could sweep Oakland (not easy), they could fly home with an even record and with a massive head of steam.

This team is getting right. And just at the right time.
