Atlanta Braves: Should be Sellers at Break
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves are limping into the break with a record under .500 and have their toughest portion of the schedule ahead of them. After failing to capitalize in a series against the Nationals where they had opportunity to win all four games and only managed to win two it is time to sell.
Hanging in all four games the Atlanta Braves had a chance to put themselves back into contention but failed to win the series. The Braves now are sitting several games out of .500 and have a tough schedule ahead it is time to look at selling a few key pieces and look towards the next season.
Matt Adams is one piece that the Braves should sell high on. The big first baseman has lit up the scoreboard since joining the Braves and has likely the highest trade value of any of the Braves expendable hitters. Moving Freeman back to his natural position as well would be a good idea even though the move to third has gone better than was first expected.
Moving Adams would bring the Braves back at least one good prospect or maybe a reliable bullpen arm that they could use for next season. Whichever direction the Braves decide to go in they should sell high on Adams and move Freeman back to first base.
Brandon Phillips and Jaime Garcia are two other names that have been in trade rumors. Both could net a decent return piece and either would clear a spot for a young player who will be a part of the Braves future core.
While likely there are few fans who will be sad or surprised to see Garcia dealt moving on from Phillips will be a bit harder considering how good of a season he has had with the Braves. Regardless of their decision Phillips will be fondly remembered by Braves fans.
