The Atlanta Hawks have reportedly signed Dewayne Dedmon to a two year deal that will give the Hawks a legitimate big man option on their depleted roster. The move is the first notable signing for the Hawks this off-season and will give them a defensive presence.

Signing Dedmon is a good move for the Hawks that gives them a defensive presence in the paint without the drama or price tag of Dwight Howard. While there is a bit of a step back in offensive talent it is still a solid move that makes the Hawk’s roster better.

Dedmon spent his last few seasons backing up Gasol for the Spurs and is used to playing plenty of minutes with Gasol’s age and need to sit on the bench at times. Whether or not he will be the starter going in or not for the Hawks is unclear and should take shape as the Hawks continue to bargain shop.

Being an Atlanta Hawks fan means that you may be in for a long season considering the fact the Hawks are rebuilding and looking to go bargain shopping only in this year’s free-agent market. For a team with a long streak of making the playoffs it appears that that streak will be coming to an end this year.

Dedmon may not make the Hawks a contending team but he does make them a much stronger one and send a message that the Hawks will at least attempt to field a competitive roster and not only look to add young up and coming players.

With the summer league getting into swing and Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard moving on the focus begins anew for the Hawks on the 2017-18 season and how they will build a team that can compete in an East that looks to ruled by Lebron James for some time to come.
