NFL: Quarterback Power Rankings
By Kit Anderson
- Phillip Rivers
There are a few quarterbacks in the NFL to which almost any lead does not feel safe. If Phillip Rivers is on the opposing sideline that is almost always the case. It doesn’t matter who he has any given season or who he is facing. Rivers is going to air it out and pile up yardage.
To call River’s arm a cannon seems to repetitive but there isn’t any better way to put it. There is no quarterback that slings the ball around with quite the reckless abandon that Rivers does and as with most gun slingers that ends with a lot of turnovers.
The turnovers and big play ratio was a little closer than it should have been last season for Rivers but he is still solidly a top fifteen quarterback based on the past seasons he has had. The bad news for the Chargers is that they seem to be perfectly stuck in neutral heading in neither direction.
Phillip Rivers will continue to keep them in games as he has done for his career but unless the Chargers get more help on defense this season it will still not be enough and River’s ratios may continue to slip in the wrong direction.
