NFL: Quarterback Power Rankings
By Kit Anderson
32. Christian Hackenburg/Bryce Petty/ Josh McCown
If you think your favorite team is bad and want to feel better, take a look at the New York Jets roster. Looking at the roster and comparing it to your favorite team’s is bound to make you feel better unless you’re a Jets fan in which case I apologize.
The Jets are headed into the season with three guys on their roster who they could choose to start. Bryce Petty would seem like the likely choice to begin the season with McCown serving as the second option and Hackenburg starting once fans grow tired or Petty turning the ball over.
There is no NFL roster with less talent right now than the Jets a team that a year ago looked to be a playoff contender is now the unquestioned worst roster in the league. It is hard to see any of these three guys as long term options considering what they have to work with or lack thereof. One decent receiver and an gaining running back behind a bad offensive line… It is going to be a very long season for any of these three quarterbacks who likely will all three have their shot to win the job this season.
31. Brian Hoyer
Brian Hoyer is the NFL’s favorite plug in quarterback. That is meant with no disrespect to Hoyer who has made a living playing the toughest sport there is. It simply is true Hoyer seems to sit in free-agency take a back up role and a year later be starting for a new team.
Looking at highlights you can tell that Hoyer is capable of making most any throw the problem is finding Brian Hoyer highlights to begin with. The one thing that 49er’s fans can look forward to is Hoyer is almost guaranteed to have a game to solidify himself as the starter. Once a year or more Hoyer seems to have one really standout game that locks him in as the starter (as long as he is healthy) and then goes back to mediocrity.
If the 49er’s coaching staff is smart they will utilize Hoyer much like the Chief’s use Alex Smith. Counting on Hoyer to be an NFL game manager not the gun slinger that he has attempted to be at times. Overall the 49er’s seem to be headed in the right direction but with Hoyer at quarterback it will be hard to see them going far in 2017.
