Atlanta Braves: Jaime Garcia Trade Reaction
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves finally pulled off the long rumored trade of Jaime Garcia to the Twins sending Anthony Recker as well. The Braves pulled off the trade days after it was rumored that a Garcia trade had fallen through with the Twins.
Being an Atlanta Braves veteran often means that there is a good chance you will be on the move to a competing team and that is the case with Jaime Garcia. In exchange for Garcia and Recker the Braves received pitching prospect Huascar Ynoa.
The young pitching prospect has struggled in the Twin’s system so far this season but is still just 19-years old and will pitch at the rookie ball level. Overall the Braves have gotten something for nothing. Ynoa has struggled at the rookie ball level but has above average movement on his pitches.
Trading Recker and Jaime Garcia was a good move for the Braves that got them yet another pitching prospect to add to their wealth of prospects. Garcia was not going to help the Braves get to postseason nor was he going to play a role with the team long term. Neither player was going to be on the roster next year. Recker is a solid triple-A catcher who was not going to stay on the roster.
Replacing Garcia will be an interesting story line to watch as the trading deadline nears and rumors of the Braves trading for a controllable starter continue to be in the rumor mill. It is doubtful that the Braves will be willing to get in a bidding war for one of the better starters on the market the more likely scenario will be the Braves giving their young arms an opportunity to prove that they are a part of the young core the Braves are building. Overall the trade was a good one for the Braves that continues to build towards the future.
